การทำท่าทางเลียนแบบภาพเขียน หรือภาพถ่าย หรือแอคชั่นในหนัง ที่เราชอบ อาจจะดูเป็นเรื่องเล่น ๆ แต่ในทางการละคร และศิลปะ ก็ถือเป็นขั้นตอนการฝึกหัดพื้นฐานอย่างหนึ่ง ในทางปรัชญาการล้อเลียนหรือเลี่ยนแบบจากภาพ เป็นการแสดงออกที่เกิดจากการตีความ และการสร้างภาพลักษณ์ของตนเอง ที่ถือว่าเป็นการยกสถานะทางวัฒนธรรม ซึ่งอาจจะสามารถอธิบายในทางการเมืองได้ด้วย

การบันทึกการเลียนแบบเหล่านี้ จะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการสร้างงาน ที่จะเป็นการจัดวางวิดีโอ และภาพนิ่ง ในเวลาต่อไป แต่ในขณะเดียวกัน ก็ถือว่าเป็นการฝึกหัดศิลปแสดงสด อีกแบบหนึ่งด้วย

ผู้เข้าร่วม จะหาภาพจากหนังสือ หรือ หนังสือพิมพ์ ที่ตัวเองประทับใจ สามารถอธิบายถึงความเกี่ยวข้อง ทั้งในทางสังคม และจิตใจ ของตนได้

Tableau Vivant its a world-wide, social – cultural art -project by Pascale Grau which will be realized in different countries with different cultural backgrounds.

The project is connectec with the (western) traditional practice of reenactment of Paintings ans Sculptures and is situated between theater practice and fine arts. It questions the cultural memory and interprete the treasure of Art and Cultural-images as well. The Tableaux Vivants will be filmed with a professional video camera. The five different videos, which are an artwork itself and not only a video documentation, should finally be exposed as a video installation in Switzerland and if possible in all the countries which has participated.

ริชาร์ด มาร์แตล (Richard Martel) ได้รับรางวัล “ผู้สร้าง – Reconnaisance”จากรัฐบาลควีเบค 3 ปีซ้อน ล่าสุดเมื่อปี ๒๕๕๓ เขาได้รับการยอมรับว่าเป็นครู หรือผู้รู้เกี่ยวกับศิลปะร่วมสมัยมากที่สุดคนหนึ่งของโลก เขียนบทความทางด้านศิลปะนานาชาติมาตลอดระยะเวลาที่ยาวนานกว่า 20 ปี ในการเป็นบรรณาธิการนิตยสาร ศิลปะแสดงสด INTER ที่นับเป็นห้องสมุดศิลปแสดงสดที่ใหญ่ที่สุด แห่งหนึ่งของโลก ริชาร์ด เคยเดินทางมาแสดงในประเทศไทยแล้ว ๓ ครั้ง และเคยเปิดสอนศิลปแสดงสด ๑ ครั้ง ในครั้งนี้ริชาร์ด ต้องการทํางานร่วมกับศิลปินรุ่นเยาว์ ๑๕ คน อนึ่งรวมบทความเกี่ยวกับศิลปแสดงสดของริชาร์ด ที่ตีพิมพ์มาแล้วในภาษาฝรั่งเศส และสเปน จำหน่ายอยู่ใน ๒๐ ประเทศ กําลังจะมีการตีพิมพ์เป็น ภาษาไทย โดยเอเชียโทเปีย ด้วย

Richard Martel has been going through a multidisciplinary experience for the past 20 years, mainly in Quebec. He is a founding member of the magazine Inter, and Participated in setting up Le Lieu in 1 982. Richard Martel is a writer, organizer of artistic events, teacher lecturer, radio and video producer, visual artist and performer ; he is particularly interested in art as a generalized system with which he experiments in a theoretical and practical way. In 1983, he has published a book on his activities. He took part in an important exercise, The Silent Zone, in Mexico. He participates frequently in the exchange network between Mexico, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Poland, etc., he has made 250 performances in more than 40 different countries.

นาฏยเปิงใจ  ครั้งที่ 4

“หยาดฟ้อน ก่อนลมหนาว : Celestial dance in glittering breeze”

ณ ข่วงหงส์คำ  ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมเชียงใหม่

ศิลปะการแสดงของล้านนา โดยเฉพาะนาฏยกรรม  ยุคหนึ่งเคยได้รับใช้สังคมล้านนาอย่างกว้างขวางมาตลอดโดยเฉพาะในสังคมเจ้านาย    อีกทั้งยังมีการพัฒนาการอย่างต่อเนื่องจนถือได้ว่าเป็นยุคทองของนาฏยกรรมแห่งล้านนาในช่วงยุคสมัยของพระราชชายาเจ้าดารารัศมี   แต่ด้วยความเปลี่ยนแปลงบริบททางสังคมรวมถึงการไหลทะลักเข้ามาของวัฒนธรรมตะวันตก เป็นส่วนหนึ่งที่ทำให้นาฏยกรรมล้านนาขาดช่วงการพัฒนาลง  ปัจจุบันก็ยังมีการสืบสานในแบบฉบับดั้งเดิมเอาไว้เท่านั้น หากแต่ว่ายังขาดการสานต่อและต่อยอดของพัฒนาการนาฏยกรรมล้านนาให้ก้าวหน้าต่อไป

ด้วยเหตุนี้กลุ่มหน่อศิลป์และศิลปิน โดยการนำของ ผศ. มานพ มานะแซม , ผศ. ธิติพล กันตีวงศ์  แววดาว  ศิริสุข, รณรงค์ คำผา  และนักแสดงศิษย์เก่าจากคณะวิจิตรศิลป์มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่

จึงร่วมมือกันจัดการแสดงล้านนาร่วมสมัย  “ นาฏยเปิงใจ ”   ขึ้นเพื่อเป็นการปลุกกระแสของวงการนาฏยกรรมล้านนาให้มีพัฒนาการ   ความก้าวหน้า   และเผยแพร่ต่อสาธารณชนทั้งในและต่างชาติ  โดยรายได้หลังจากหักค่าใช้จ่ายแล้ว ร่วมสมทบทุนการศึกษาของนักศึกษาสาขาศิลปะไทย  คณะวิจิตรศิลป์  มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่  และร่วมบริจาคผู้ประสบอุทกภัย

การแสดงนาฏยกรรมล้านนาร่วมสมัยนาฏยเปิงใจครั้งที่ 4    จะทำการแสดง 2 รอบในระหว่าง

วันที่  26 – 27 พฤศจิกายน 2554   ณ ข่วงหงส์คำ ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมเชียงใหม่

is a celebration of ComPeung’s first major milestone of its residency program in Doi Saket, the first non-governmental AiR in Thailand. This group exhibition featuring works by international artists pays tribute to the artists who have been part of the ComPeung AiR program since 2007:

Sofian Audry, Allison Cummings, Louise Elscot, Ellis Hutch,Jun’ichiro ISHII, Marietta Leis, Ruud Matthes, Monali Meher, Helen Michaelsen, Mona Oren, Andrew Salgado, Pisithpong Siraphisut, Catherine Thompson, David E. Vogel, Alix Waline

The works in this exhibition revolve around ComPeung in the broadest sense: retrospective perceptions and reflections on each artist’s residency @ ComPeung, works that are inspired/ influenced/ (re)modeled by the physical/mental space of ComPeung/Doi Saket.

ComPeung Revisited 2007 – 2012, curated by Helen Michaelsen & Pisithpong Siraphisut, is on show @ the Chiang Mai Arts and Cultural Center from Dec 3 – 29, 2011. Opening reception Dec 3, 2011, 6 – 9pm.

For this last performance in Chiang Mai, Company Director Hiroshi Koike will create a unique version of the show especially for local audiences. Thai dancers Waewdao Sirisook and Teerawat “Kage” Mulvilai and American dancer Michael Sakamoto will join the production. Waewdao is well-known in Chiang Mai as one of the leading northern Thai dancers of the last decade. Kage is also a prominent contemporary actor, dancer, director, and co-leader of the avant-garde theater company, B-Floor Theatre, based in Bangkok. Michael is one of the leading butoh dance theater artists from the United States and also lives in Chiang Mai. As well as Sarun Suwannachot, Contemporary Lanna Musician/artist who will adding a special sound in this special performance

A long-awaited stage appearance fromJapan’s internationally renowned contemporary dance theatre company Pappa TARAHUMARA will finally be realized atCMUArtsCenteron 5 November 2011 (Saturday).

Directed and choreographed by the troupe’s Artistic Director Hiroshi Koike, Pappa TARAHUMARA will present Three Sisters, an adaptation from Anton Chekhov’s timeless literary classic. In the new context of the Japanese countryside in the 1960s, it’s seemingly sweet portrayal of three bored sisters grappling with womanhood spirals into a sensual and charged meditation on female identity, coming-of-age and the Japanese obsession with youth culture. This eccentric comic tragedy, narrated through a dynamic choreography, is a powerfully condensed alternative to the company’s larger-scale multi-disciplinary works.

Since its premiere in 2005, Three Sisters has been performed over 100 times in more than 30 countries, including at New York’s Joyce Theatre, Singapore’s Esplanade, Guangdong Modern Dance Festival, and has won rave reviews across the world.

Founded by director Hiroshi Koike in 1982, Pappa TARAHUMARA is distinctive and extraordinary from other theater companies for their original creative methods which the body, time, and space are blended to create a real-time ephemeral performing arts. Without taking consideration of classifying their performance into any specific genres of theater arts, they rather combine contemporary dance, play, music and visual arts in their creative process, presenting a wholesome theater art. Therefore, the troupe has attracted many audiences worldwide and has attained an international recognition.

madiFESTO is a media/art/culture exhibition, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This exhibition
has been organized annually by Media Arts and Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University since 2009.

This year, madiFESTO comes back with the “FALL” project. This project is
about critical investigation into, question about and search for social, politic
and cultural failure, mistake, deception and truth in the past, present and future amid conflicts and rapid changes in the contemporary society through various forms of demonstration as usual. The exhibition will be held not only at the Art Center, but also at public and non-public areas throughout Chiang Mai with no limitation of time and space.

This project may not be the worst media art exhibition that tears down, ruins or criticizes everything unconsciously.

The Most Secret Place on Earth: The CIA’s Covert War in Laos

It was known as the ‘secret war’, a covert operation waged by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) throughout the sixties and early seventies against communist guerrillas in Laos. And the most secret location in this clandestine war was the former CIA air base of Long Chen, in central Laos, a place still off-limits today. The Most Secret Place on Earth,which explores this little known conflict, includes images of Long Chen shot by the first Western camera crew to enter the base since the communists took control of the country in 1975.

This group performance addresses the revival of traditional dance culture in the Lanna region, self-exotification, and the effects of commercialism and audience desire. As an insider looking out, Sirisook reflects on and speaks from her experience as a Lanna cultural representative within Thailand and internationally, and along with Lanna people, living the “Lanna Dream.”

Waewdao Sirisook received her MFA in Choreography from the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures, her BA from Chiang Mai University, and also studied Balinese dance in Bali, Indonesia.  As a traditional and contemporary dancer, Ms. Sirisook’s choreography focuses on expressing the diversity of traditional Lanna arts and culture for diverse audiences. She participated in the Asian Pacific Performance Exchange and received fellowship funding for study and research in the United States for three years in a row by the Asian Cultural Council.  For more information: http://waewdaosirisook.org/

ล้านนาดรีม หรือความฝันล้านนา  เป็นการแสดงละครผสมผสานการฟ้อนรำล้านนาร่วมสมัย   ที่ศิลปินจะได้นำเรื่องราวที่ตนเองประสบพบเจอตลอดระยะเวลามากกว่าสิบปี ในการทำงานและศึกษาด้านศิลปะวัฒนธรรมการฟ้อนรำและการแสดงทั้งในประเทศและต่างประเทศ ทังในมุมมองของนักแสดงและมุมมองของผู้ชม  มาร้อยเรียงและแสดงออกในเชิงวิพากษ์วิจารย์ผสมอารมย์ขบขัน พร้อมกับชวนตั้งคำถามต่อภาพความฝันที่เราต่างค้นหาในดินแดนล้านนาแห่งนี้

แววดาว ศิริสุข  นักออกแบบการแสดง และ ช่างฟ้อน แววดาวได้รับปริญญาโทด้านการออกแบบการแสดงจากมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งแคลิฟอร์เนีย ลอสแองเจิลลิส และปริญญาตรีศิลปะไทย จากคณะวิจิตรศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ ทั้งยังได้รับประกาศนียบัตรด้านนาฎศิลป์บาหลี จากอินโดนีเชีย นอกจากนี้ แววดาวมีโอกาสได้เดินทางไปเผยแพร่ศิลปวัฒนธรรมร่วมกับการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทยรวมไปถึงองค์การเอกชน ในประเทศต่างๆทั่วโลก ผลงานและความมุ่งมั่นของแววดาวคือการแสดงให้เห็นถึงความหลากหลายของรากเหง้าแห่งศิลปวัฒนธรรมล้านนา ควบคู่ไปกับการอนุรักษณ์ และพัฒนาศิลปะการแสดงเพื่อนำไปเผยแพร่สู่กลุ่มคนดูที่กว้างและเป็นสากลมากขึ้น

แววดาวได้รับทุนการศึกษาจากองค์กรณ์ต่างๆทั่วโลก อาทิเช่น Asian Cultural Counsil, Yu Shan Han Award รวมถึงได้รับการคัดเลือกให้เข้าร่วมในงาน Asian Pacific Performance Exchange 2006, American Collage Dance Association Festival 2007, 2008.

Body Percussion  and Lanna Martial Art

Exploring Rhythm through body and voiceby by Daniel Sweed: In this workshop we will be exploring Rhythms through our bodies and voices. Through vocal and percussive games and exercises participants will learn and explore rhythms in a group environment. Learn about timing, groove, syncopation, counting, and how to create your own rhythms.

Lanna Martial Art  (Forn Jueng or Tob Ma Pab) By Lanna Wisdom School: Sharing the same basics as body percussion by using body and hands to create a rhythm, Lanna Martial Art is a beautiful and sophisticated movement technique. It has its own history, which roots in the time between the 13th and 18th centuries when Chiang Mai and 8 other provinces in the North were a part of the Lanna Kingdom. These areas carried on their own culture and art called ‘Lanna’. Lanna Martial Art was one kind of martial art practiced in this region, which has now a new sequence starting with its original pattern as a pre-dance before continuing with the sword dance.

Putting these two workshops together, we hope that this creative space will bring you more creative ideas of contemporary art and culture. Please come to join us. No experiences are necessary. Lots of fun is offered. Please wear loose comfortable clothes, drinking water and an open mind is all you need.

About artist:

Daniel Sweed has been a musician for over 20years. Starting off playing bass guitar in bands, as a result of his passion for rhythm and the effect it had on himself and others. Daniel has also played in an African percussion band. And has worked for a number of different music and performance facilitators where he learnt the art of community music. Most recently he completed a tour of outback towns for the Queensland Music Festival. Daniel believes anyone with the desire can make music, regardless of skill levels.

เนื่องในปีฉลองครบรอบ 15 ปี ของกลุ่มละครชุมชนกั๊ปไฟ ในเดือนตุลาคมที่จะถึงนี้ ทางกลุ่มละครกั๊ปไฟ โดยในทุกๆเดือน จะได้จัดโปรแกรมอบรมเชิงปฎิบัตืการด้านการละคร โดยความร่วมมือของ Third – Way Theatre และ CNX Art Connex.

ในเดือนนี้เราได้จัดกิจกรรมที่พื้นฐานคล้ายกันในต่างวัฒนธรรม โดยในช่วงเช้าเราจะได้สนุกกับการสร้างสรรค์จังหวะและดนตีจากร่างกายของเรา โดย เดเนียล ศิลปินชาวออสเตรเลีย ที่มีประสบการณ์ในการทำงานการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีเปนระยะเวลาร่วม 20 ปี และเค้ามีมีความสนใจเป็นพิเศษ ในเสน่ห์ของกระบวนการมีส่วมร่วมกันของคนในชุมชน เค้ากล่าวว่าสาระสำคัญคือการที่เรามาอยู่ร่วมกัน และสร้างสรรค์ร่วมกัน ดังนั้นเพียงแค่คุณมีความสนใจ ไม่จำเป้นต้องมีประสบการณ์ด้านดนตรี ก็สามารถเข้าร่วมในงานนี้ได้

และในช่วงบ่าย เราใคร่อยากเชิญท่านมาเรียนรู้ศิลปะการฟ้อนเจิง ศิลปะการต่อสู้ด้วยมือเปล่าของทางล้านนาเรา ซึ่งในปัจจุบันได้นำมาผสมผสานกับการฟ้อนดาบ การเคลื่อนไหวและเสียงที่เกิดจากการกระทบกันของส่วนต่างในร่างกาย สร้างความรู้สึกหึกเหิมและสงานผ่าเผยของผู้ร่ายรำ เราเห็นว่าสองกิจกรรมนี้มีพื้นฐานของการสร้างสรรค์โดยไม่ต้องอาศับอุปกรรืไดๆ และเราอยากเชิญท่านมาร่วมเวลาแห่งความสนุกนี้กับเรา

กลุ่มละครชุมชนกั๊ปไฟ ซึ่งเป็นองค์กรพัฒนาเอกชนด้านสื่อระดับย่อย ปราศจากการควบคุมจากลัทธิ กลุ่มการเมือง และกลุ่มทุนนิยมใดๆ มาครอบงำ ทำงานโดยใช้กระบวนการละครชุมชน ศิลปะ วัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัย สื่อทางเลือกและกิจกรรมสร้างสรรค์อื่นๆ เพื่อเสริมพลัง ศักยภาพ สร้างทางเลือกหรือสร้างพื้นที่ การเรียนรู้แลกเปลี่ยนที่หลากหลาย กับบุคคล ชุมชน องค์กร เครือข่าย หรือเพื่อขยายพื้นที่สื่อภาคประชาชนในการเข้ามา มีส่วนร่วมทางสังคม เช่น เพื่อป้องกัน รณรงค์ หรือแก้ไขปัญหาตั้งแต่ระดับชุมชน สาธารณชน จนถึงระดับนโยบาย ด้วยสันติวิธี เพื่อสันติสุขอย่างทั่วถึงเท่าเทียม โดยมี “กั๊บไฟ” เป็นกลุ่มสื่อรณรงค์ขององค์กร

นาฏลีลาบูโต คือศิลปะการแสดงที่ริเริ่มขึ้นในยุคหลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่สองที่ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ซึ่งเปิดการแสดงครั้งแรกในปี 1959 นาฏลีลาบูโต คือการสร้างสรรค์รูปแบบนาฏลีลาร่วมสมัย ที่มีกลิ่นอายผสมผสานจากนาฏลีลาดั้งเดิมของประเทศญี่ปุ่นและนาฏลีลาในรูปแบบต่างๆ จากฝั่งตะวันตก ทั้งนี้ นาฏลีลาบูโต เองก็มีลักษณะที่แตกต่างหลากหลายออกไปเช่นเดียวกับที่มีศิลปินผู้สร้างสรรค์งาน บูโต อยู่จำนวนไม่น้อย ด้วยเหตุนี้ จึงเป็นการยากที่จะอธิบายความหมายหรือให้คำจำกัดความเกี่ยวกับ บูโต แก่ผู้ที่ยังไม่เคยรับชมศิลปะแขนงนี้

Butoh dance is a performing art that originated in Post World-War II Japan and was first performed in 1959. It is a contemporary form of dance that has little to do with either traditional Japanese dances or most western forms of dance, although it does borrow elements from some of each. There are almost as many styles of butoh as there are performers, and so, it is hard to define for someone who has never seen it.

An International Collaboration

“Searching for Sanook”

There will be an exciting international collaboration between award-winning Interact Theater from the USA and Rajanagarinda Institute for Child Development (RICD) in Chiang Mai to create an original play comprising actors with and without disabilities from the United States and Thailand.

Interact’s Artistic Director Jeanne Calvit, known for her work  in the United States for the last 30 years as a pioneer in the field of Arts and disabilities, has brought her creative team of Tod Petersen and Natalie Wilson, and two leading actors with down syndrome, Mike Brindley and Matt Dahlstrom, to work with twenty very talented young people with disabilities from Thailand.

The musical play “Searching for Sanook” will be performed for the public in two shows

1st Wednesdays’ class will be for beginners (and their friends!)

3rd Wednesdays’ class will be for more intermediate dancers with a short review at the start for beginners

Just look for the Kodak store and it’s directly above (entrance on Ratchapakinai). It’s in a beautiful old building with fantastic wooden floors. If you don’t have proper dance shoes, please make sure you are wearing other suitable NON-SCRATCHING footwear. We want to preserve the beauty of this amazing venue.

The cost for the evening is FREE with a 100 baht minimum purchase per person to support the venue. The 2nd Floor serves beer, wine, cocktails, tea/coffee, and a selection of delicious snacks.

SIZZLING SALSA NIGHT #2!!

Our new teachers, Jim and Amy did a fantastic job last time handling such a big class. This week the class will be mostly aimed at INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED dancers, though beginners are invited to come for the first 15 minutes for a basic review of last week’s material. After that, beginners can watch the rest of the class and/or practice their moves in one of the side rooms.

Please note, this will be the LAST Sizzling Salsa Night for the month of February, then we will fall into a regular schedule of 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, starting in March.

What is Playback Theatre?

Playback Theatre is created through a unique collaboration between performers and audience. Someone tells a story or moment from their life, chooses actors to play the different roles, then watches as their story is immediately recreated and given artistic shape and coherence.

Playback Theatre creates a ritual space where any story – however ordinary, extraordinary, hidden or difficult – might be told, and immediately made into theatre. And where each person’s uniqueness is honored and affirmed while at the same time building and strengthening our connections to each other as a community of people.
